Physiology forms a vital link in understanding the biology of any organism. The complete meaning and functional significance of the total human genome sequence is inadequate without correlation of gene function with physiological processes. Keeping this in view, the research at Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, is presently focused on assessment of physiological changes during epilepsy and hypoxic stress in conscious animals using telemetry technique. Telemetry provides more realistic picture of alteration in the physiologic status of research animal. The research is the step towards the possible utilization of calcium channel blockers in combination with antiepileptic drugs to combat epilepsy. Beside this research efforts are directed to delineate the role of hemoxygenase upregulation on cardiovascular adaptation to hypoxic stress. This study will help in understanding physiological changes at high altitude.
